Bankruptcy of Japanese hotels and airlines in the Coronavirus crisis

According to a study published by a research company in Japan, 33 hotels in this country have gone bankrupt so far.  On the other hand, the number of passengers on international and domestic flights of Nippon Airlines in March decreased by 72% and 60%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.  Also, the number of passengers on domestic and international flights of Japan Airlines has decreased by 73% and 57%, respectively.

Announcement of summer travel plan by European Commission

The European Commission has unveiled a multi-step plan to reopen borders, airports and hotels in the summer to save the tourism industry from the crisis.   Under the proposed plan, travel restrictions between EU member states, which have similar conditions in terms of the number of people infected with the coronavirus, will be reduced.   Online purchase of tickets, reduced number of passengers in vehicles, use of masks, access to disinfecting gels during travel and no drink and food service on airplanes and ships are among the proposals of the European Commission.  A reduction in the number of employees has also been proposed.

Elimination of 8,000 jobs at Europe's largest travel company

The German travel company, TUI has announced that it will lay off 8,000 jobs due to the crisis caused by the outbreak of the Coronavirus.  Travel restrictions around the world have seriously hampered the company's revenue source.  9 out of 10 employees of this company have been sent on leave or have their salaries cut to reduce costs.

Turkey's plan to save the tourism industry

Turkey's tourism minister has announced the issuance of special work permits that allow hotels and their staff to operate during the summer.  The licenses will be issued by the International Certification Authority, which guarantees the operation of hotels, restaurants, the transport sector and other tourism services in the strongest possible terms.

Air France Airlines Passenger Temperature Control Process starts

Air France announced on Monday that it will control the temperature of its passengers.  The company has asked passengers to wear masks on all flights and will not allow passengers with a body temperature higher than 38 to board the plane. 

Extensive layoffs at Qatar Airways

In a letter to its employees, the CEO of Qatar Airlines informed them about the layoffs.  It is unknown yet how many will be dismissed. The company's CEO says we can't keep up with the current number of employees and have to close many jobs, even flight crews.   Qatar Airlines currently has about 45,000 employees and a fleet of 240 aircraft.

80% reduction in international tourists

The latest report from the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO);   According to the report, the number of international tourists has decreased by 22% in the first three months of this year.   On the other hand, the number of international tourists entering at the "March", has decreased sharply by 57%. According to the report, the extent of global tourism damage depends on the timing of the reopening of the borders.   The World Tourism Organization predicts that, compared to the reopening of borders in July, September or December, the number of international tourists will decrease by 58 to 78 percent.
